Outer electrical

In preparation for the brick layers later in the week, Clay and I have to get moving on the outside electrical boxes. I never realized how much thought can go into the placement of a fixture. If you fully think through what you might use an outlet for and where it would be [...]

Busy weekend

This weekend Clay got the garage and the water line trench back filled. You would think it would be an easy job but that bobcat beat him to death. He was also very sore from carrying all of those bundles of shingles up a ladder. There is a photo of his shoulder [...]

A little farther

The last closet was framed in today and the final walls were erected.  Some of the house wrap was put on and the shingles were started.
Clay packed the singles up to the roof – what a heavy job!   He got 36 bundles of the 176 bundles up this evening.

Ready for windows

The framing is just about completed to the point of installing the windows and doors. Unfortunately the windows and doors will not be in until Tuesday of next week.  The framers will do a few minor touches tomorrow but won’t return until Tuesday to complete the framing.

Under roof

By the end of the day Saturday the framers had it far enough along to put the tar paper on.  They are supposedly working all weekend, so I am anxious to see where they are by the end of the day Sunday.
Clay wasn’t feeling too well all day, so instead of shoveling in the water [...]

Filling in the blanks

The framers have been hard at work getting the trusses up, subflooring down and some of the exterior plywood attached.  With some of the interior walls up, the house is really starting to take shape.  We took the oportunity to rethink the location of one interior wall before it went up.
We spent the day picking up garbage [...]

We’ve been framed!

The framers have been hard at it the last couple of days.  The house is really taking shape!  All I could say was “Wow!” when I laid eyes on it today.  To see the reality of how big the house is was really shocking.  You could fit the house we live in now inside this [...]

Framing begins

The framers started today. They got the main beam in place and part of the floor joists up. Clay took one of the floor joists down because the board was damaged and had a hole in it. I am sure the framers will wonder what the deal is tomorrow! They will [...]

Basement floor

The basement floor was poured Monday, August 11.  We supported the hydrant and filled in around it.  We will have to start filling in the water line trench soon.  The framers are to start Wednesday, August 13.

Basement sealing complete

Saturday was a messy day.   We painted the waterproofing on the outer walls of the basement.  It smells and feels like liquid asphalt.   The hard part – washing it off!   Caleb will have to get a very short haircut to get the sealer out of his hair.
